Terms of Service

These Terms of Service govern your use of the Slim Archiver software and the slimarchiver.com website. Please read them carefully. By downloading, installing, or using the software, you agree to these Terms.

1. Who these Terms are between

The Slim Archiver software and website are provided by [[ LEGAL IDENTITY — legal name / registered form (individual or SRL), and registered address if applicable; to be settled with an accountant or lawyer ]] ("we", "us", "our"). These Terms form an agreement between us and you, the user of the software or site ("you").

Purchases of a Slim Archiver license are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the Merchant of Record for the transaction. This means the purchase contract for payment is legally between you and Lemon Squeezy, and Lemon Squeezy's own terms and refund policy govern the payment itself. These Terms govern your use of the software and site, not the payment transaction.

3. The Software and licensing model

Slim Archiver is offered in three tiers — Free, Pro, and Enterprise — each providing the features described on our pricing page. Only features that are actually built and enabled in the shipped build are offered; we do not advertise features that are not present.

Pro is a perpetual license scoped to a single major version. A Pro license for major version 1 entitles you to use every 1.x release up to and including 1.9.9, with no time-based expiry on your right to run the Software. The next major version (for example, 2.0.0) is a separate paid upgrade and is not included in a major-version-1 license.

Enterprise is provided as an annual subscription. Your right to run the Enterprise build is tied to an active subscription term; on expiry, continued use requires renewal.

Free is provided at no charge for the features designated as free-tier, subject to these Terms.

4. Purchases, payment, and refunds

As set out in section 1, payment is handled by Lemon Squeezy as Merchant of Record. We do not process or store your payment-card details. Prices are shown at checkout.

Refunds are handled by Lemon Squeezy under their refund policy. Any refund request is made through, and decided by, Lemon Squeezy as the seller of record. We do not operate a separate refund process.

5. Activation, single-machine use, and changing computers

Paid licenses (Pro and Enterprise) are enforced on a single-machine basis: each license activates on one computer, bound to that computer's hardware identifier. You may not share, resell, or use one license on multiple machines simultaneously.

If you change computers, contact support at slimarchiver.com/support. Support deactivates the old device; you then activate the License on the new one. We do not transfer or move licenses on your behalf beyond releasing the previous activation so that you can re-activate.

6. Updates

For a Pro license, all updates within your licensed major version — including feature updates and security updates — are provided at no additional charge for the life of that major version. A Pro major-version-1 license therefore receives all 1.x updates through 1.9.9. There is no separate time-limited update window on Pro; coverage is defined by the major version, not by a date.

The next major version is a paid upgrade. As a courtesy, if you purchase a Pro license within the 90 days immediately before a new major version is released, you will be upgraded to that new major version at no additional charge; this upgrade is applied by us and requires no action on your part.

Following the release of a new major version, we may provide security updates for the previous major-version line at our discretion and for a period we may specify. 7. Acceptable use and restrictions

You agree not to: (a) reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software, except to the extent this restriction is prohibited by applicable law; (b) redistribute, resell, sublicense, rent, or lease the Software or your License; (c) circumvent, disable, or interfere with the Software's licensing, activation, or security mechanisms; or (d) use the Software for any unlawful purpose.

8. Intellectual property

The Software, the Slim Archiver name and branding, and the .slim archive format are our intellectual property and are protected by applicable law. Your License grants you the right to use the Software as described in these Terms; it does not transfer ownership of any intellectual property to you.

9. Third-party components

The Software includes third-party open-source components, each provided under its own license. A list of these components and their license terms is provided in the accompanying third-party notices file distributed with the Software [[ confirm final location: bundled NOTICE file and/or a /licenses page ]]. Your use of those components is subject to their respective licenses.

10. Disclaimers

The Software is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. We do not warrant that the Software will be error-free or uninterrupted.

Slim Archiver compresses, encrypts, and stores your data. While the Software is designed to preserve data integrity, you are responsible for maintaining independent backups of any important data. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss of, or inability to recover, data — including data secured with a password or key that is lost or forgotten, which by design cannot be recovered by us.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability arising out of or relating to the Software or these Terms is limited to the amount you paid for your License. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Our handling of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of your agreement with us.

13. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your License if you materially breach these Terms, including the restrictions in section 7. On termination for breach, your right to use the Software ends. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability — survive.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date above and, where changes are material, take reasonable steps to notify users. Your continued use of the Software after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

15. Governing law
